About us

The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission exists for one purpose: to make sure no veteran or veteran family member has to navigate benefits, assistance, or uncertainty alone. Established under Title 59 of the Ohio Revised Code, our office serves veterans of the United States Armed Forces, along with their spouses, widows, children, parents, and dependents. Our accredited staff works directly with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the State of Ohio to help residents understand, apply for, and secure the benefits they have earned through service. From disability compensation and pensions to burial, education, and home loan benefits, we provide guidance, advocacy, and hands on support every step of the way.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to serve Mahoning County veterans and their families with dignity, respect, and practical support. We assist in presenting claims for federal and state benefits, administer temporary financial assistance as outlined in Ohio law, and connect veterans with trusted public and private resources. We provide daily transportation to VA medical facilities in Cleveland and Parma, support veterans and surviving spouses residing in nursing homes, assist with patriotic observances such as Memorial Day, and work to ensure every Mahoning County veteran’s grave is properly marked. Funded by Mahoning County property taxes, our commitment is local, accountable, and focused on honoring service by delivering real help when it matters most.
