Susan Krawchyk

 Executive Director and Service Officer 

Susan Krawchyk is the Executive Director and a Service Officer with the Mahoning County Veteran’s Service Commission.

Mrs. Krawchyk was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio.

She is a graduate of Chaney High School and Youngstown State University with a degree in Business Administration.

Mrs. Krawchyk enlisted in the United States Army in 1982 as a Clerk Typist. Her duty assignments included Panama, Alaska, Japan, Germany and completed her career with a 12 month tour in Iraq. She was the Headquarters Platoon Sergeant and also the Operations NCO that assisted in coordinating construction activities in the theater of operations. She was also the Commander’s driver on many convoys throughout the area of Iraq. With 25 years of military service she served in several positions including Clerk Typist, Legal Clerk, Unit Clerk, Construction Equipment Supervisor, and Operations NCO and she retired as a Sergeant First Class on September 30, 2007.

She was hired at the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission in November 2007 as a Veterans Benefits Counselor. In November 2009 she began work as a Service Officer assisting Veterans and Widows with VA Claims, State and County Benefits. She was promoted to Assistant Director June 2013 and promoted to Executive Director March 1, 2014.

Mrs. Krawchyk is a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2 and AMVETS Post #44. She is also a Councilwoman for Koppel Borough.

Mrs. Krawchyk resides with her husband Jim in Koppel, PA. Their son Jake resides in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Nate Walker

Assistant Director

Nate Walker has been the Assistant Director since 2022 and has been employed by the VSC since 2013. Nate’s military background includes 12 years in the Army as a forward observer and has spent the last 8 years as a CH-47F pilot all with the Ohio Army National Guard. During his military career, he has spent tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Egypt. Nate has been married to his wife Jamie since 2008 and they have 3 kids. While family focused he enjoys spending time in the woods or in his garden.

Barry Landgraver

Service Officer

Barry Landgraver has been a County Veteran Service Officer in Mahoning County since April 4th, 2001. He assists Mahoning County veterans and their families seeking Veterans Administration, state and local benefits.

Mr. Landgraver was born and raised in Austintown, Ohio.

Mr. Landgraver enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1980 as a law enforcement specialist. His assignments include the Republic of Korea, Republic of the Philippines, Italy, Germany and several locations throughout the United States. With 20 years of military service he held several positions including Desk Sergeant, Customs Inspector, Correctional Trainer and Flight Sergeant. Mr. Landgraver retired as a Master Sergeant January 1, 2001.

He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science degree in Workforce Education and Development.

Mr. Landgraver is a member of AMVETS #44, American Legion Post #301, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Retired Enlisted Association and Air Force Sergeants Association.

Mr. Landgraver is widowed and he resides in Austintown, Ohio.

Bonnie L. Durkin

Being part of the Veteran Community work place has been such an honor, working with Veterans through our office and our outreach events.
Hobbies: Spending time with family, especially my grandchildren and going to their sporting events, school activities and just being together.
Love taking care of all my hanging plants, and my flowers in the yard.

Christopher A. Wess

Christopher A. Wess, served 8 years active duty from 1987 to 1995, United States Marine Corps.

Employed with the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons from 1995 to 2020. Has been employed at the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission since 2020.

I was hired with the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission on March 4, 2019 and I am humbled and honored to join the team. I have worked in the Personnel field for over 44 years, throughout my civilian and military life. I am work driven to have positive outcomes. My current life interest is to find pleasure in my life, have peace and understanding and avoid stress. Basically, live, work play!

Paul Webber

Service Officer

Paul Webber, USN (Retired)

Paul Webber, originally from Clintonville PA is a 20 year retiree from the United States Navy. He served as a Gunners Mate, then as a Personnel Specialist were he reached the rank of Petty Officer First Class (E-6)

After retiring from the Navy Paul went to work for the Disabled American Veterans as a State Service Officer in 2011. After being a State service officer for 3 years he moved to the Cleveland Office of the DAV as a National Service Officer where he became an Attorney in Fact for Veterans Law. In 2019 Paul joined the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission and has been working hard for the valleys veterans ever since.

In his spare time Paul enjoys wood working, playing hockey and spending time with his wife and 3 sons.

Susan Cargill

Investigator

Susan Cargill has been employed by the Mahoning County Veteran Service Commission since 12-3-84, having served the veterans of Mahoning County and their families for 40+ years.

She graduated with a degree in business management and accounting in 1982 and has utilized that education to assist the Mahoning County veterans and their families seeking financial assistance. With the help and guidance of the Commission, she has created and implemented many of the financial assistance programs in place today.

Corban Baker

Outreach Coordinator

Corban Baker is a graduate of Brookfield High School in Trumbull County. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2003, serving honorably for 5 years and 4 months, including 3 overseas deployments as an F/A-18 Avionics Technician. His service included time aboard the USS Harry S. Truman in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a WESPAC deployment to Iwakuni, Japan with detachments in North and South Korea and Okinawa, and a 7-month deployment to Al Asad, Iraq. Over the course of his military career, Corban traveled to 24 countries and 37 U.S. states, earning the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 2008.

Following his military service, Corban attended Youngstown State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications with a minor in Theatre in 2012. He went on to spend 11 years in the telecommunications industry, including more than 5 years as the lead anchor for 33 WYTV News in Youngstown.

Since March of 2021, Corban has served as the Outreach Coordinator for the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission, where he works in the community to help connect local veterans and their families to critical resources, benefits, and support.

Corban is a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1090, AMVETS, and Disabled American Veterans.

He lives in Howland, Ohio with his wife and 2 daughters.

Moses Murphy

Service Officer

Moses Murphy has been a County Veteran Service Officer in Mahoning County since January 2003.

Mr. Murphy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1996 as an Infantryman with 3rd Battalion Fourth Marines. His home base was 29 Palms, CA. He served his 4 years and was honorably discharged in 2000.

Mr. Murphy is a Life Member of AMVETS Post #44 and DAV Post #2.

Mr. Murphy is married to Alison, his wife of 25 years. They have 4 boys.
